DE LA SERNA FINE ARTS

“What I create is a reflection of my commitment to defining my heritage and my life.
Whether through the medium of painting, clay or wood, the connection I have to “patria” my land and my family, is emphasized by the colors, forms and spirit present within each piece. I enjoy stretching each discipline.
Born to a family with an exceptionally rich cultural heritage, I was brought up with Spanish Catholic, Penitente, Native American and Sephardic Crypto-Jewish traditions in Northern New Mexico.
This personal generational history, combined with technique, and aesthetics gives rise to creating art that is not simply disassociated objects within the art-for-art's-sake idiom. “
Jacobo is currently represented in Carefree, Az at Coopers Art Gallery and Brokerage, Vail, Chicago, Princeton and Santa Fe.
Welcome - Bienvenidos:
“I have worked as a professional artist for 18 years. Of course it all started much earlier than that. As part of my early childhood development my mom and I would work on craft items.
Mom had signed us up for a craft of the month club. I recall waiting with great anticipation for the arrival of each monthly project. One month we would make baby-sized beaded leather moccasins and another month would find us assembling and painting miniature wood boxes and popsicle stick baskets.
As we completed each piece mom would instruct me on color and brush technique, but the best lessons would be unspoken. Those would come to me as an adult when I realized more about her gift of patience and love.
I attribute the years of personal study and artistic endeavor to my mom. If I have anyone to blame or thank for this vocation I believe it to be her. “
